Rachel McAdams"I stopped eating meat for a few years and got so tired I fell asleep during a Chris Rock show - live, front row! I was like, 'I'm picking up some bacon tomorrow!' You have to be so strict to be a vegetarian. And I'm only human." [On her recently giving up being a vegetarian]

Why Do Zombies Do That?
Posted by Angus on 08/05/2009 (2385 reads)

In our never ending effort to prepare all of you for the impending zombie apocalypse (Oh and it's coming!) I remembered a quote from Sun Tzu's Art of War that states "know your enemy and know yourself and you can fight a hundred battles without disaster." Which makes total sense! The best way to defeat the army of the undead is to get inside their rotting heads and figure out what makes them tick.

Why do zombies like brains so much. Why do they walk that way? So many questions. That's were Dr. Steven C. Schlozman comes in. Dr. Schlozman is an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and a lecturer at the Harvard School of Education. He's is also a huge fan of all things zombie. Now, I first saw Dr. Sclozman on G4 TV's Attack of the Show and have read a few articles about his love for zombie movies.

The good doctor has done extensive research on the living dead and he even put together a fake medical journal report explaining the neurobiology of the average zombie. He even gave the condition a very technical name. Ataxic Neurodegenerative Satiety Deficiency Syndrome, or ANSD.

Now I tried to find the actual paper, but the doctor never actually published it. I did however find an article that explains the doctor's theories in great detail. Check it out here.

So study up! Get to know your enemy. The zombies are coming!

Some Kind of Wonderful

Dakota's DallasSo, our fearless leader got himself a nifty new HTML editor on the article generator. Since its such a nice and useful tool, I present you with the latent bifurcated and somewhat narcissistic Meat Quest destination # 5(ish):

Let me be clear on this, typically and in the future I will not send you to fancy schmancy steak restaurants because, well I have to assume that like me you are too broke or cheap to drop 200 bucks for some meat. But if you live in Dallas, or you like spendin' loot to get with stuffy chicks from the nearby sorority, this place is for you. It's also got a VERY tasty meat selection and some smooth scotch to wash it all down. mmmmmmmmmmmm

About:
Dakota's was established in 1984 and has been a downtown Dallas dining icon for over 20 years. Dakota's unique underground location has an interesting story behind it. It is located one level below street level on a section of real estate that was once occupied by the First Dallas Baptist church. There is a legally binding clause in the deed that prohibits any future owner from selling alcohol on former church grounds. Because "on the grounds" and "below ground" are two different terms, and because Lincoln Property Company wanted a restaurant to anchor their international headquarters, land was excavated and the restaurant was placed 18 feet below street grade.

Check it out here.

A Century of Progress: Ferris Wheels, Baby Machines and Hydraulic Cattle
Posted by Sven on 07/30/2009 (2600 reads)

1933 Chicago World's Fair - A Century of ProgressOn May 27, 1933, the Chicago World's Fair ("A Century of Progress International Exposition") opened in Chicago. It remains one of the largest fairs ever held, bringing in 22.5 million ticket sales in 1933 and another 16.4 million in 1934.1 The fair promoted architectural and industrial innovation. Ford Motor Company even produced a $5 million, nine-hundred-foot long building with a 20-foot globe, recreations of historic highways and an automobile assembly plant.

There were a few oddball displays, however, like the "Magic Mountain" slides for the kiddies, Sally Rand's infamous "fan dance" show for the bachelors and, of course, the "Living Babies in Incubators" exhibit.2 But what I want to know is...

where the hell is my robot cow?
